Even long before Egbert Friedl started his illustrations of airplanes in action, he constructed many illustrative air plane models, partly for his own pleasure and partly contracted by the producing company of the models themselves. The results of this three dimensional variation of airplane art exhibit impressive realism and high attention to detail. With the extremely precise and highly detailed plastic model of a float plane, the artist won the German Championship of Plastic Modelers. The illustrations shown below are pictures of normal models built right out of the box. However, Egbert Friedl knows how to generate a highly realistic impression overall by expertly painting and aging of the miniatures. All models are for sale. Focke-Wulf Fw 190 D-9

Focke-Wulf Fw 190 D-9

While this plane was only meant to be an temporary solution until the more advanved Ta 152 would be available, the Fw 190 D-9 proved itself to be an equal to the fighter planes of the allied forces. Although quite a large number of the planes saw action, the machine could of course not influence the outcome of the war.

Hawker Typhoon Mk. I

Hawker's initiative to develop a more powerful successor to the reliable Hurricane led to the development of the Typhoon. Although it was often plagued by engine problems, the machine was soon feared by the enemy even though less as a fighter than a bomber.

Curtiss P-40 E

Curtiss P-40 E

The P-40 was the only modern fighter plane that was available in the US at the beginning of World War II. It was no match for the Japanese Zeros especially regarding its maneuvrability. But it was very robust and therefore capable of carrying the load of fighter defense until newer models were developed.

Vought Corsair FG-1 (license built F4U by Goodyear)

First flown in 1941, the fighter plane with ist typical bent wings very quickly proved to be superior to most of the Japanese fighter planes. Used in many variations, the American Corsair became quite famous in the Pacific theatre of operations.

Focke Wulf Fw 190 A-8

Focke Wulf Fw 190 A-8

Despite continuous increase in armament, the Fw 190 A-8 remained an agile and dangerous opponent. But even though the machine had performance enhanced engines, the hefty machine was not able to fly to the heights necessary to defend against the high incoming bomber squadrons in 1944.

Messerschmitt Bf 109 E

Already in its concept, the Me 109 was designed to be produced inexpensively and efficiently. This was the main reason that this capable fighter plane became the first standard fighter of the German Luftwaffe in the WW II. The E-series was the first version produced in very large numbers.

Messerschmitt Me 262 A-1a

Shortly before the end of the war, the Me 262 was used in combat as the first jet fighter. Although the plane was vulnerable during take off and landing, the fast machine with its heavy armament proved to be an excellent defense fighter. When the jet engines were trouble free, the machine was superior to every fighter of the allied forces.

North American P-51D Mustang

Orginally the plane was developed under the name »Apache« for the Royal Air Force. However, this low level attack and dive bomber became world famous under the name »Mustang«. With an improved design and equipped with a licensed Rolls Royce Merlin engine, this concept became one of the best fighters of the US Air Force.

Supermarine Spitfire Mk. Vb

Supermarine Spitfire Mk. Vb

The appearance of the first Fw 190 in the skies over France and England made the RAF aware of a performance discrepancy with its Spitfire Mk. II. Since the Spitfire Mk. IX was not yet available, a new engine was quickly combined with the Mk. II to at least close the gap and catch up to the German Fw 190.

Space Shuttle

Developed in the 1970s and tried as a glider, the Space Shuttle was supposed to be active only until 2005. Immense technical difficulties with a successor as well as financial deficiencies will probably keep the tried Space Shuttle in service until 2020.
